Terms
The basics of booking a home with us. Your signed rental agreement has the full terms for your stay.
About these terms
These terms cover using this site and booking a home through The Vacation Door. When you book, you also sign the home's rental agreement. If the two ever differ, the signed rental agreement wins for your stay.
Booking
A booking is confirmed when you've signed the rental agreement, your payment has gone through and we've sent your confirmation. Until then, dates are held for a short time only.
The person who books must meet the listing's minimum age, stay at the home, and keep to its guest, pet and vehicle limits and house rules.
We check every channel's calendar before confirming. In the rare case a home turns out to be taken, we refund everything you paid.
All-in pricing
The price you see includes every required fee: nightly rent, cleaning and any other mandatory charge. Lodging taxes are shown on their own line before you pay. Nothing is added at checkout that wasn't shown.
Rent is charged in full when you book, unless the listing says half at booking and the balance 30 days before arrival. In that case we save your card and charge the balance on that date; if it fails, we'll contact you, and the agreement says what happens next.
The $500 deposit
Every booking includes a $500 refundable deposit, charged at booking as its own charge.
Before check-in it is a reservation deposit: if you cancel, the cancellation terms in your agreement decide how much comes back. After checkout it is a damage deposit: we inspect within 48 hours and either refund it in full or keep part for damage, missing items, extra cleaning or rule violations, with an itemized list and photos. Anything not decided within 48 hours is refunded in full.
If you pay rent by bank transfer, we still take the deposit by card in the same checkout.
Cancellations and changes
Cancellation refunds follow the cancellation section of the rental agreement you sign, shown in full before you pay. In California you can also cancel for a full refund within 24 hours of booking, as the agreement explains.
To change dates, ask us; a change is a new quote, and you pay or get back only the difference.
Using the site
Use the site only to look for and book homes, or, as an owner, to manage yours. Don't try to get around the booking process, the bot check or sign-in.
Photos and descriptions are accurate to the best of our knowledge. If something at the home doesn't match, tell us during your stay so we can fix it.
We're responsible for what we control under your agreement and the law. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under California law that can't be waived.
Changes and contact
If we change these terms, we'll update the date below; the version in force when you booked applies to your stay. Questions: hello@thevacationdoor.com.
